Tianjin Nanjing Road Synagogue Renovation

This synagogue is a national protected architectural heritage building with over 100 years of history. The project is aimed at finishing renovation of the interior space. The existing interior has undergone many transformations and repeated painting from which we cannot see the original architectural structure and interior design. Our primary job is to restore the building interior and expose the original structure and materials; meanwhile we added some brand new elements like stainless steel, glass and a mosaic as additional functions required by the owner. We hope to present both the new and the old elements at the same time, which reflects the importance attached to old architecture, as well as the injection of new life. It is also an important design concept for us to display both the old and new design elements to embody the sustainable design, thereby creating a unique space for people to experience.
